Left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea has reportedly reached a three-year agreement with the New York Mets, valued at $75 million, as per ESPN sources. The team has not yet provided official confirmation of this deal.

In 2024, few players improved their overall performance and market value as markedly as Manaea, who had previously signed a two-year, $28 million contract with the Mets last offseason, which included an opt-out option after the first year.

Manaea recorded career highs in both innings pitched (181 2/3) and earned run average (ERA) at 3.47, showcasing outstanding performance from July through the end of the postseason. During 21 starts from July 1 to his last postseason appearance, he achieved a 3.40 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and accumulated 127 strikeouts over 124 1/3 innings. His significant contributions were vital to the Mets' impressive postseason run, as he posted a 2.65 ERA in his first three postseason starts (17 innings) before facing difficulties in Game 6 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, where he surrendered five runs in just two innings.

In 2024, few players enhanced their overall performance and market value as significantly as Manaea, who previously signed a two-year, $28 million contract with the Mets last offseason, which included an opt-out clause after the first year.

Manaea achieved career bests in both innings pitched (181 2/3) and earned run average (ERA) at 3.47, demonstrating exceptional form from July through the conclusion of the postseason. Over the course of 21 starts from July 1 to his final postseason appearance, he recorded a 3.40 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and amassed 127 strikeouts across 124 1/3 innings. Contributing significantly to the Mets' remarkable postseason journey, Manaea posted a 2.65 ERA in his first three postseason starts (17 innings) before experiencing a challenging outing in Game 6 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, where he allowed five runs in just two innings.

The New York Mets have reached an agreement on a three-year, $75 million contract with left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea, as reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the contract is contingent upon a successful physical examination.

Manaea, who will turn 33 in February, is set to join the Mets for the second consecutive offseason. Earlier this January, he signed a two-year contract with New York worth $28 million, which included an opt-out clause after the 2024 season. This marks the second consecutive winter in which Manaea has secured a two-year deal with an opt-out, having previously signed with the San Francisco Giants for $25 million during the 2022-23 offseason.

His initial contract with the Giants followed a challenging 2022 season in San Diego, where Manaea recorded a 4.96 ERA (76 ERA+) and a 4.53 FIP over 158 innings. However, his performance with the Giants improved; despite a 4.44 ERA (94 ERA+), he showcased better underlying metrics, including a 3.91 FIP and a 3.83 SIERA, along with a strong finish in September, where he achieved a 2.25 ERA and a 3.21 FIP.

The Mets evidently saw promise in Manaea's trajectory, and their confidence was justified. In 2024, he emerged as a reliable mid-rotation starter for New York, posting a 3.47 ERA (114 ERA+) and a 3.83 FIP over a career-high 181 2/3 innings across 32 starts. Following a standout season and ahead of his third consecutive foray into free agency, Manaea appeared to be seeking long-term stability. The Mets extended a Qualifying Offer to him at the beginning of the offseason, but it was anticipated when he declined the one-year, $21.05 million proposal and opted to explore the free agent market. Notably, he was ranked as the #10 free agent by MLB Trade Rumors on their annual Top 50 MLB Free Agents list, and the #5 starter, trailing only Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Max Fried, and Jack Flaherty.
